Sabah Aims for Four Million Visitors with Strategic Tourism Initiatives

Kuala Lumpur:Sabah Sabah is on course to achieve its goal of attracting four million visitors this year, having already welcomed approximately 2.6 million arrivals by August.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor reported that of the total arrivals, 1.1 million were international visitors and 1.5 million were domestic tourists. He expressed confidence that with robust performance in the fourth quarter, the four-million target could still be realized.

The state government is committed to fostering a competitive, inclusive, and sustainable tourism sector, guided by the Sabah Tourism Master Plan. This plan is designed to address challenges such as flight connectivity, environmental protection, and enhancing local community involvement.

Close collaboration between the public and private sectors is deemed essential to achieve tourism goals. Sabah boasts diverse attractions, including islands, beaches, rainforests, mountains, wildlife, culture, and cuisine. With effective planning, management, and marketing, these assets can be shared with a wider audience while safeguarding the environment and considering local community interests.

Tourism development is also expected to benefit local communities by creating job opportunities, fostering skills development, and supporting local entrepreneurs, suppliers, and service providers. The state government is refining strategies to enhance Sabah's appeal and competitiveness in anticipation of the Visit Sabah Year 2027.

The success of these initiatives relies on the commitment, cooperation, and active involvement of all stakeholders, including government entities, tourism industry participants, private sector partners, local communities, and the people of Sabah. By working together, Sabah aims to solidify its standing as a sustainable, world-class destination for both domestic and international tourists.
