Langkawi: The father of a Russian boy who died after being stung by a box jellyfish at Chenang Beach has called for improved safety measures to prevent similar tragedies. Nikita Lakubanets, 32, expressed hope that authorities would take steps to address the issue.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nikita stated, “They should improve beach safety because deaths like this must be prevented. Our son’s death shows that the problem is very serious and has caused us immense pain.” He further expressed his desire to see how the problem will be addressed in the future, hoping that no other family would experience the same loss.
Earlier, Kedah Tourism, Culture and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Salleh Saidin visited Nikita and his wife, Olga, 32, at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital. The couple’s two-year-old son, Vladimir, died at the hospital on Wednesday after fighting for his life following the incident on November 15.
The couple plans to bring Vladimir’s ashes back to Russia after cremation.
