Melaka: The national-level Rukun Negara Oratory Competition has attracted a record of 10,494 participants this year, reflecting growing interest among young Malaysians in understanding, embracing, and articulating the national principles. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said participation rose from 9,312 last year, surpassing the five-digit mark for the first time.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Chief Minister emphasized that the increased participation is more than just a new record, describing it as a clear sign that the Rukun Negara remains firmly rooted in the hearts of young Malaysians. He highlighted that the youth are eager to understand, embrace, and speak about these national principles. His comments were made at the final of the 2026 Rukun Negara Oratory Competition for the Melaka Governor's Challenge Trophy at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC).

The event was attended by Melaka Governor Tun Dr Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam and Deputy National Unity Minister Yuneswaran Ramaraj. Ab Rauf noted that this year's competition saw entries from every state across the nation, including Perlis, Johor, Sabah, and Sarawak.

He remarked that the initiative, which began in Melaka six years ago, has evolved into a national movement that brings young Malaysians together to express ideas on unity, stability, and the country's future. In recognition of the strong response, the state government has expanded its grants for institutions with the highest participation, now including the top three schools and educational institutions.

Ab Rauf expressed that this expansion reflects the state government's appreciation for educators who diligently work to build character and instill a love for the country, bringing the Rukun Negara principles to life in the hearts of young Malaysians.
