RTS Train Set Testing Commences at Wadi Hana Depot

Wadi hana: Train Set 02, the inaugural train set for the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link project, has arrived at the Wadi Hana Depot and is slated to undergo comprehensive testing, including a decoupling exercise from today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, RTS Operations Pte Ltd (RTSO) Chief Executive Officer Dr. Ahmad Marzuki Ariffin stated that the initial tests would involve static evaluations to ensure all systems are functioning correctly before proceeding to the three stages of dynamic testing. These dynamic tests will extend from the depot to Bukit Chagar Station, then across the international border to Woodlands North Station in Singapore, before returning to the depot to assess operational performance under real-world conditions.

Dr. Ahmad Marzuki elaborated, “Through these three dynamic tests, the train will operate at low speed, and testing will occur under actual operational conditions on the mainline.” He emphasized that the main focus would be on verifying the signalling system, communication system, and train performance on actual tracks, ensuring smooth and safe operation of all systems.

He further mentioned that the testing and commissioning of all eight RTS train sets are anticipated to span six to seven months. Following successful testing, the trains will be approved for driverless operation. “This is crucial to ensure that each of our trains can communicate with other systems, including the power and signalling systems,” he added. Passenger capacity tests are also scheduled for next year to guarantee seamless RTS operations and passenger comfort.

Meanwhile, RTSO Chairman Datuk Khairil Anwar Ahmad indicated that the RTS Link project is advancing smoothly, with an overall progress of 65 percent to date. He assured that all work is being executed in compliance with established standards to meet the projected timeline. “We have many staff on-site, so safety is maintained at the highest standard to ensure all work is carried out and completed, while keeping safety a top priority,” he stated. He noted that operational planning is being handled with meticulous attention to prepare for any eventuality, including unpredictable weather conditions.

Train Set 02 was transported over a distance of 541 kilometres from the CCRC Batu Gajah facility in Perak, utilizing four low loader 112-wheeler trailers, and reached the Wadi Hana Depot yesterday. Once operational, the four-kilometre RTS Link project, connecting Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru and Woodlands North Station in Singapore, is expected to accommodate up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction.
