Kuala lumpur: Royal Selangor and independent watchmaker MING have unveiled the MING 37.06 Royal Selangor, a limited edition of 88 pieces that combines handcrafted Malaysian pewter with a grade-2 titanium case. The watch features a hammered pewter dial crafted in Kuala Lumpur, representing MING's first use of the malleable metal alloy for a dial.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Royal Selangor managing director Datuk Yong Yoon Li stated that the collaboration is the result of years of development to ensure the final product reflects the intended craftsmanship. Yong explained that the collaboration began before the COVID-19 pandemic and took nearly six years to realize. He emphasized that while producing the watch was not difficult, it was crucial to ensure the story was correctly told. Each watch is presented in an elegant pewter box, further highlighting the collection's craftsmanship.

MING founder Ming Thein described the watch as a collaboration rooted in friendship. He noted that the project evolved through exploring several options before selecting a pewter dial. Thein expressed that the hand-hammered pattern, a signature of Royal Selangor, was a natural choice for the dial. He highlighted that this watch marks the first time any serious watch assembly has occurred in Kuala Lumpur, with components sourced from Switzerland except for the dial, which adds a local flavor to the creation.

The watch is powered by the Swiss automatic Sellita SW300.M1 movement, offering a 50-hour power reserve, skeletonized rhodium-plated bridges, and an anthracite baseplate. Priced at 5,000 Swiss Francs (CHF) or RM25,109.83 excluding taxes, the timepiece also includes a blue-grey Jean Rousseau goat leather strap and a hammered pewter presentation box. The watch is available at Royal Selangor boutiques starting today, with online sales through MING's website beginning August 6.
