Roland and Musical Futures International Unveil Roland ASPIRE Project for Classroom Music Education

Bangkok: Roland Corporation and Musical Futures International, a not-for-profit music education organisation, have introduced the Roland ASPIRE Project. This research-informed electronic music education programme is designed to support hands-on music-making using accessible hardware in classroom environments.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, David Whitehead, Roland Asia Pacific Tactical Marketing Manager, stated that young people form a deeper connection with music when they are allowed to create in styles that resonate with them. He emphasized that the Roland ASPIRE Project equips teachers with practical tools and confidence to facilitate this creative process.

The programme is developed for teachers from varied musical backgrounds and is currently active in Bangkok, Melbourne, and Singapore. It emphasizes practical music-making over prior technical expertise, allowing teachers to engage students effectively.

Central to the programme is a classroom set of Roland AIRA Compact instruments, which are provided free of charge to participating schools for a six-week period. The initiative is supported by teacher workshops, lesson guides, and digital resources, catering to students at different stages of musical experience, from beginners to more advanced creators.

Informed by research in Electronic Music Pedagogy, the programme bridges academic insight with real-world music-making practices. It includes learning activities that focus on exploration, listening, collaboration, and creative decision-making.

The resources also feature tutorials and guided "recreate a track" activities linked to popular music styles familiar to students. Roland's extensive range of electronic musical instruments and multimedia products has supported artists and creators worldwide, covering pianos, guitar products, drum and percussion instruments, and audio and video solutions.
