Rohingya Must Abide By Laws Or Face Firm Action – PM Anwar

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reminded Rohingya refugees in the country to comply with local laws and regulations at all times or face firm action. He said that although Malaysia adopts a humanitarian approach, the group remains subject to the country’s legal system, including regulations governing the use of premises and the operation of businesses.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Prime Minister advised Myanmar nationals, particularly the Rohingya, to adhere to the regulations in Malaysia. He emphasized that their buildings and businesses must follow the rules, and failure to do so would result in necessary action being taken. This statement was made to reporters after Anwar performed Friday prayers at Masjid Al-Hidayah in Sentul.

The Prime Minister also mentioned that enforcement issues involving the Rohingya had been discussed with Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail during a Cabinet meeting. This is to ensure that legal actions are applied consistently. He urged local authorities and state governments to monitor any misconduct or misuse of premises involving the group more stringently.

Addressing the calls for repatriating Rohingya refugees, Anwar acknowledged the complexity of the humanitarian crisis. He noted the challenges in repatriating them or resettling them in third countries due to ongoing issues with the Myanmar government. Anwar shared that in his discussions with Myanmar leaders, he insisted that aid provided must benefit everyone and called for an end to the oppression and crimes in Myanmar.

Additionally, Anwar urged Malaysians to maintain humanitarian values and not take matters into their own hands, stressing that the issue should be left entirely to the authorities. He appealed to the Muslim community and others who object to uphold humanitarian values without violating rules and laws.
