Butterworth: Preliminary work to upgrade the road from the Butterworth Outer Ring Road (BORR) intersection in Bagan Ajam to Permatang Pak Elong, Butterworth, will commence in the third quarter of this year and is expected to be completed within three years.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Penang Infrastructure, Transport and Digital Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari announced that the RM561 million road upgrade project covers a distance of eight kilometers. The proposed upgrade involves expanding the existing two-lane road into a four-lane dual carriageway, including the installation of street lighting, traffic lights, road furniture, and drainage system upgrades.
The project also involves upgrading seven existing intersections. Five of these intersections will be closed and converted to ‘Left In Left Out (LILO)’ only, featuring free-flow U-turns, while two intersections will be upgraded with traffic lights. This initiative aims to ease congestion and improve traffic flow in the area.
