Penang: The Marikh team from the Malaysian Armed Forces hope to maintain the momentum gained during the second race from Pangkor to Penang as they set sail for Langkawi today in the 35th Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta (RMSIR).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Marikh skipper, Air Force Corporal Muhammad Husaini Mohd Rodzi, said that if they can sustain their strong performance, the team has the potential to finish on the podium in Class 5. In the first race from Port Klang to Pangkor, Marikh finished in fourth place. During the second race from Pangkor to Penang, they improved their position to third.
Muhammad Husaini emphasized the team’s focus and optimism for securing a podium position, stating that with some luck, they could achieve their goal. He noted that all preparations for the race to Langkawi have been completed smoothly, with strategies ready for execution.
Marikh currently holds third place in Class 5 after accumulating 12 penalty points. Malaysia’s Dash and Sade 2 teams are in first and second place, with three and six penalty points, respectively.
The RMSIR, held over nine days from November 14 to 22, features 23 teams. First held in 1990, the RMSIR is the second-oldest regatta in Asia and was initiated by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, when he was the Raja Muda of Selangor.
