Lanchang: The Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) Programme is not only providing affordable housing for the people, but also serves as a symbol of stability and assurance of a better future, said Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu. She highlighted the joint efforts by her ministry and Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) in offering comfortable and quality homes for the low-income group, underscoring the government's commitment to expand access to quality housing for those in need.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the RMR Programme aims to aid people, especially in rural areas who own land, to establish homes of their own. Deputy Minister Aiman Athirah emphasized that a house is more than a shelter; it is a place to build a life, a family, and to raise children. Her remarks came during a keys handing ceremony for RMR and Offer Letters to 13 recipients in Lanchang.
The RMR houses, with a floor area of 750 square feet, include three bedrooms and two bathrooms, and are offered at RM75,000 per unit. This price is subsidized by a government contribution of RM20,000, with the remaining RM55,000 financed through an interest-free loan repayable over 16 years. The government has allocated RM500 million under Budget 2026 to construct 6,545 RMR units nationwide, with Pahang receiving 680 units, of which 160 are currently being implemented.
In the Temerloh parliamentary constituency, 1,933 RMR applications have been received since 2002. Of these, 555 units have been completed and handed over, while 18 units are under construction to address local housing needs. SPNB chief executive officer Mohd Jamil Idris advised applicants to contact the company's state offices directly or visit its official website for information, cautioning against dealing with parties offering application facilitation on social media.
