Kuala Lumpur:The Malaysian government has allocated RM400 million to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to enhance urban liveability, as announced in the Budget 2027 tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh stated that the funds would be used to develop 120 new green spaces, conserve existing parks, upgrade public amenities, and preserve the city's heritage. Initiatives include constructing covered walkways and pedestrian paths, continuing the Lestari Niaga programme, and repainting People's Housing Projects (PPR) to boost residents' quality of life.
Hannah Yeoh also highlighted the gazetting of a 40-hectare parcel of leasehold land in Bukit Kiara as a Federal Park for public use, complementing the already gazetted 200 acres (81 hectares).
Additionally, the Prime Minister announced an entertainment duty exemption for tickets to local films and theatre performances in the Federal Territories starting next year. Hannah expressed optimism that this measure would invigorate the local creative industry, which is supported by over RM130 million allocated to the local film, music, and creative content sectors as part of Budget 2027 efforts.
