Kuala lumpur: A total of RM4.42 million has been channeled through the Sports Victory Prize Scheme (SHAKAM), with RM2.6 million designated for recipients of the 2025 SEA Games and RM1.475 million for the 2025 ASEAN Para Games held in Thailand.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Youth and Sports Minister Dr. Mohammed Taufiq Johari emphasized that these incentives are part of the government's strategy to honor the contributions of athletes, encouraging them to remain enthusiastic and perform better in the future. Dr. Taufiq stated, "This is one way the government appreciates our athletes so that they are more enthusiastic and this is not the end but the beginning for us to fight even harder for the upcoming games, especially in 2026."
He further highlighted the importance of preparations for the 2027 SEA Games, which the country will host, urging all parties involved, including organizers, coaches, athletes, and teams, to begin preparations now. Dr. Taufiq made these remarks during the SHAKAM Presentation Ceremony for the 2025 ASEAN SEA Games and Para Games.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister Mordi Bimol, secretary-general of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Datuk Dr. K Nagulendran, and director-general of the National Sports Council Jefri Ngadirin. Swimmer Khiew Hoe Yean and wushu athlete Tan Cheong Min were recognized as the top national male and female athletes, receiving RM32,000 and RM26,666.67 respectively for their performances at the 2025 SEA Games.
Hockey emerged as the sport with the highest reward, receiving RM316,800 after securing three gold and three silver medals. In the ASEAN Para Games, para swimmers Abdul Halim Mohammad and Carmen Lim were the top recipients, taking home RM62,000 and RM39,000 respectively. Para athletics, with achievements including 20 gold, 22 silver, 23 bronze medals, and 10 games records, received the highest incentive in the para category, totaling RM550,800.
