Kuala lumpur: More than 27,000 Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) veterans benefitted from RM303 million in health and welfare assistance last year, with support extending to medical treatment for themselves and their dependents, Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari revealed.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari detailed that RM74 million in health treatment assistance was provided to 18,554 pensionable veterans, while 8,427 non-pensionable veterans received RM39 million. The MAF Veteran Affairs Department (JHEV) plays a key role in delivering local services to veterans, including medical facilities for them and their families. JHEV collaborates closely with the Ministry of Health (MOH) to ensure the effective delivery of these health services.
During an oral question-and-answer session at the Dewan Rakyat, Adly responded to an inquiry from Aminolhuda Hassan (PH-Sri Gading) regarding the total allocation for health treatment and welfare assistance planned for MAF veterans in 2025. Adly also noted that the government had provided RM190 million in assistance through the Bantuan Sara Hidup program to MAF veterans. This includes RM500 per month for each non-pensionable veteran, with an additional RM300 per month for those living below the poverty line.
