Gerik:A long-awaited reunion turned into tragedy for Mohd Sanuzi Mohd Nawi, who had been anticipating seeing his only daughter, Safiyya Haura, 3, after nearly a year apart, only to end up attending her funeral following a fatal accident in Gerik, Perak.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Sanuzi's former wife, Tuan Shazrin Tuan Mud, 40, had informed him that she would be bringing Safiyya Haura and her son, Mohammad Shiraz Hammani Abdul Fattah, 9, to visit him in the coming days. The reunion was eagerly anticipated by Mohd Sanuzi, who had not seen his daughter since she moved with her mother to Taiping, Perak.

The remains of Safiyya Haura and her mother were laid to rest at the Kubur Dusun Muslim Cemetery, Sering after Isyak prayers. Despite the end of his marriage, Mohd Sanuzi maintained a close relationship with his daughter through regular communication via WhatsApp. His unease grew when his messages to her went unanswered on the day of the accident.

The tragic news reached Mohd Sanuzi at around 8 pm through a call from an unknown number, informing him of the accident and the deaths of his daughter and former wife. This unexpected loss was a severe blow, as their communication had been normal until the incident occurred.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Shiraz, who was also involved in the crash, remains in critical condition at Taiping Hospital. He is expected to undergo surgery to remove a blood clot in his head. Mohd Sanuzi expressed hope for the boy's full recovery.

In a related development, Mohamad Hafiz Daniel Nik Hairey, 19, was also buried, having been one of the four victims of the accident. The crash took place at KM38.5 of the Gerik-Jeli East-West Highway and involved a Hino lorry, a Proton Persona, and a Perodua Axia. The accident claimed the lives of Al Zubair Deraman, 31, Tuan Shazrin, her daughter Safiyya Haura, and Mohamad Hafiz Daniel.
