Retaining Wall Project at Taman Belle Hill in Bintulu Nears Completion by April End: Tiong

Bintulu: The retaining wall project designed to address the persistent landslide problem at Taman Belle Hill is on track for completion by the end of this month, announced Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tiong responded to public concerns following another landslide incident in the area. He stated that his special affairs officer, Steven Kong Kai Seng, alongside Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) general manager Datuk Muhamad Yakup Kari and a representative from a nearby residential project developer, visited the site to assess the situation and engage with affected residents.

Tiong highlighted that while around 40 metres of the retaining wall remains unfinished, the completed sections have effectively prevented further landslides. He noted in a Facebook post that there have been no additional signs of soil erosion or landslides in the areas where the wall is complete.

The recent landslide occurred in a section where the retaining wall construction is still pending. Muhamad Yakup has instructed all parties involved to expedite the project’s completion to safeguard residents from further risk.

Tiong emphasized the urgency of resolving the landslide issue, which has persisted for over a year. He stated that delays are no longer tolerable, as ongoing uncertainty leaves residents in fear, particularly during heavy rainfall.

Following the wall’s completion, phased earthworks will begin, with full restoration anticipated by the end of May. A 12-month monitoring period will follow to ensure stability and safety, during which greenery will be planted to reinforce the soil.

Additionally, the developer of the adjacent residential project has pledged to repair homes damaged by the landslides once construction concludes. Tiong affirmed their commitment to closely monitoring the situation and ensuring that all stakeholders fulfill their responsibilities, aiming to restore a safe and stable environment for Taman Belle Hill residents.
