Recognition of Certificates, Including UEC, Must Align With National Education System: Zambry

Kuala lumpur: Any discussions on the recognition of education certificates, including the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), must be evaluated comprehensively and objectively within the framework of the existing national education system. Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir emphasized that the issue should not be politicized, as doing so could affect the objectivity and direction of the country's education development.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Zambry stated that matters involving certificates must be assessed based on the present education ecosystem, including language, history, and other relevant aspects. He highlighted that issues like these should be considered in the context of the Constitution, the foundations of education, and the National Education Philosophy to build an education system grounded in the country's values.

Speaking to reporters after officiating the Training of Trainers (ToT) session for the General Studies (MPU) Course at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Zambry remarked that emotional approaches in debating education issues would only compromise the objectivity needed to maintain a balanced system that serves the national interest.

On December 12, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reiterated that any claims regarding language, whether English or the recognition of the UEC, which touch on sensitivities of religion, race, and ethnicity, must take into account the status of the national language as enshrined in the Constitution.
