Kota bharu: About 34,000 consumer accounts in four districts in Kelantan are expected to experience water supply disruptions following a raw water pipe leak in Sungai Bagan which has affected the operations of the Merbau Chondong Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in Machang.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd (AKSB) announced that a leak in a 600 millimetre mild steel (MS) raw water pipe has caused the Merbau Chondong WTP to be unable to operate at normal production rates. The water supply disruption involves areas in the districts of Machang, Pasir Puteh, Kota Bharu Selatan and Kota Bharu Timur.

"Repair work will begin tomorrow starting at 9 pm and is expected to take between 24 and 36 hours to complete. Water supply is expected to be restored as early as Friday evening or Saturday," the statement said.

AKSB announced that it would deploy tankers and contract water trucks to assist affected users throughout the repair period. In addition, water operators from several other states have also committed to assisting in the delivery of water tankers to affected areas, especially to critical premises such as hospitals, dialysis centres, prisons, and hostels of higher learning institutions.

AKSB also announced that users had been informed in advance of the disruption via the Infoblast system by AKSB Careline (PINTAS) at 15777, while the latest developments will be updated from time to time via the official website, MyAKSB application, and the company's social media platforms.
