Kota Bharu: The number of rape and incest cases in Kelantan has increased but investigations showed that many were consensual sex, said Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat. He reported that 252 cases were reported in 2024 compared to 206 cases in 2023, marking an increase of 22.3 per cent, with some of those involved as young as 10 years old.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, factors contributing to this situation include family conflicts, parental neglect, underage love affairs, and easy access to pornographic materials on mobile phones, as explained by Mohd Yusoff at a press conference. He emphasized that addressing this issue requires involvement from all sectors, including educational institutions, the community, imams, village heads, and parents.
Mohd Yusoff also highlighted instances where teenage girls brought boys home without parental objections and noted that many students possess pornographic content on their mobile devices. Some have even recorded themselves in compromising positions and shared these images on social media with new acquaintances.
