Rantau Panjang Border Complex Seeks Additional Staff for Two-Shift Operations

Rantau Panjang:The Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) is in need of more personnel to enhance operations at the Rantau Panjang Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex, especially given the rise in traveler numbers and the introduction of a two-shift system.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Rantau Panjang AKPS Commander Siti Khadijah Hamzah noted that the current deployment of 14 immigration personnel per shift is insufficient to meet operational demands. Consequently, her office has submitted data and staffing requirements to AKPS headquarters for further action, including a formal request to the Public Service Department (JPA).

The additional staffing needs have been evaluated based on the number of inspection counters, shift arrangements, and traveler volume. AKPS, being a newly established agency, is restructuring its staffing at the country's entry points to ensure adequate workforce levels matching operational needs.

Despite the staffing shortage, Siti Khadijah stated that it was not the primary cause of congestion. All 12 immigration inspection counters, with six dedicated to arrivals and six for departures, are operational during peak hours. The congestion is mainly due to infrastructure constraints, such as having a single entry and exit lane, along with occasional system disruptions.
