Arau:The Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, recently welcomed the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Malaysia, Raden Datuk Mohammad Iman Hascarya, at the Blue Audience Hall, Istana Arau.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the meeting highlighted the enduring relationship between Malaysia, particularly Perlis, and Indonesia. The strategic location of Perlis, adjacent to Thailand and close to northern Sumatra, offers opportunities to enhance cross-border cooperation and regional networks.

The Indonesian Consul General in Penang, Wanton Saragih Sidauruk, was also in attendance. Istana Arau noted that the bond between Perlis and Indonesia has been bolstered through educational collaboration, notably the establishment of Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM) in the state. This institution, the first Universitas Muhammadiyah campus outside of Indonesia, recently appointed the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, as its Chancellor.

Additionally, the statement from Istana Arau mentioned active collaborations in economic, trade, and tourism sectors, as well as strong people-to-people connections. These engagements are expected to foster more opportunities for expertise exchange, economic growth, and mutual benefits. Mohammad Iman has served as the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Malaysia since October 8, 2025.
