Kota Bharu: Which mother’s heart would not break when two people dearest to her, who have stood by her through every hardship, are now battling serious illnesses of their own? This is the heartbreaking reality faced by Rahayu Daud, 51, who has been battling chronic kidney disease for nearly four years.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, during her regular dialysis sessions at Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital (HSIP) here, she was always accompanied by her husband, Mazlan Latif, 61, and their only child, Muhamad Adam Aizad Mazlan, 16. However, tragedy struck in August 2022, when Mazlan collapsed after suffering a stroke while settling her dialysis bill. He has been bedridden ever since and now depends entirely on full-time care at home.
Rahayu explained that when her husband became ill, their son took over the responsibility of looking after them and managing the household. But in June last year, he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (bone cancer) and now requires treatment at Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital and Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital in Kota Bharu.
Rahayu shared that her world felt like it had collapsed, as her family was hit with one trial after another. But she accepts these trials as fate and is determined to carry on. She emphasized that her illness will not become an obstacle and that she needs to push herself harder for the sake of her family, despite also suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure.
Whenever their son is hospitalised, Rahayu stays by his side while her husband is cared for by their nieces and nephews. She expressed gratitude for the support received from government agencies, the state, and non-governmental organisations.
Meanwhile, Muhamad Adam Aizad shared that his mother’s words remain a constant source of encouragement in his battle against cancer. He highlighted that his mother always tells him to stay positive and to keep moving forward.
In conjunction with Mother’s Day, celebrated yesterday, Muhamad Adam Aizad, who has been warded at HSIP for two weeks, penned a heartfelt message for his mother, acknowledging her unmatched love and sacrifice.
