Raft House Entrepreneur Faces RM3 Million Loss Due to Tasik Kenyir Fire

Tasik Kenyir: A raft house entrepreneur at Tasik Kenyir suffered an estimated loss of RM3 million following a fire that completely destroyed his floating accommodation, along with seven jet skis and three speedboats, last night.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the incident has been a major setback for Shaheezam Abu Hasan, 47, who invested his savings over eight years to develop the raft house. The fire occurred while he was in Kuala Lumpur, and his four employees were on leave for the first day of Ramadan. A boat driver patrolling the area discovered the blaze.

“I received a call around 10 pm and immediately rushed back, arriving here at 4 am. It is heartbreaking to see everything I built reduced to ashes in an instant,” Shaheezam shared when contacted today. Despite the substantial loss, Shaheezam expressed gratitude that no lives were lost. He stated, “Nothing could be saved – only the skeleton remains. But I’m thankful none of my workers were there as I had given them leave to break fast with their families.”

The Kuala Berang Fire and Rescue Department, led by chief Mohd Anuar Mamat, received an emergency call at 9.54 pm and dispatched two fire engines with seven personnel to the scene. “When the team arrived, the flames were already raging, and the 14-room raft house was completely destroyed. The cause of the fire is still under investigation,” he reported.
