PWD Creative Workshop To Be Expanded Nationwide – Teo

Kuala lumpur: The Basic Vocal and Acting Workshop for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) will be expanded to other states to provide opportunities and uncover new talent, stated Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching. The initiative marks a significant step towards inclusivity within the Malaysian creative industry by offering targeted programs to enhance the skills of PwD individuals.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the debut workshop, organized by the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) in collaboration with Persatuan Seni Warisan Artistik Digital Malaysia, focused on vocal training and radio drama recording. Teo emphasized that FINAS plans to select suitable locations across the northern, southern, and eastern zones, as well as in Sabah and Sarawak, to conduct the program again.

Teo highlighted the workshop's role in demonstrating Malaysia's progress toward a more inclusive creative industry, aligning with the MADANI Government's objectives of fostering creative talent through data-driven planning and strategic investments in human capital. In 2025, FINAS conducted 18 courses and workshops, benefiting 3,353 participants with a budget of RM1 million, alongside 18 community film and youth workshops valued at RM900,000 for 540 participants.

This year, Teo mentioned, 13 main workshops with RM1 million in funding will host at least 1,900 participants. Additionally, 80 nationwide community film and youth workshops are targeting 2,700 participants. She emphasized the importance of opening opportunities for the PwD community, noting that inclusivity begins with full access to learning resources, including PwD-friendly facilities, supported by FINAS and the MyCreative Ventures programme.

Teo also shared that discussions with Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) are underway to explore the possibility of utilizing the trained talent for radio drama productions, further integrating PwD individuals into the mainstream creative industry.
