Putra Heights: Volunteers wishing to participate in the mega gotong-royong program to clean up areas affected by the gas pipeline disaster in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, Selangor, this Saturday and Sunday must register through the Selangor State Sports Council’s website. Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan stated that access to the affected area is limited and controlled by police personnel, and only those registered with Selangor Volunteers (Serve) will be granted entry.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, cleaning efforts will be confined to homes and areas deemed safe by the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department and the Public Works Department. Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan emphasized the importance of registration to ensure volunteer activities are restricted to safe zones. The Subang Jaya City Council will oversee and coordinate the program.
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced that approximately 1,000 volunteers are anticipated to partake in the cleanup and gotong-royong efforts in the gas pipeline fire area in Putra Heights this weekend.
Hussein further mentioned that public access to the ground zero area remains prohibited as soil stabilization work is underway, pending forensic investigations. The site has been declared a disaster zone to facilitate the movement of machinery and investigation teams.
The gas pipeline fire, which ignited at 8:10 am on April 1, resulted in flames reaching over 30 meters high, with temperatures soaring to 1,000 degrees Celsius, and required nearly eight hours to be completely extinguished.
