Putra Heights: Vehicle management company, Spanco today sponsored 55 units of motorcycles for victims of the gas pipeline explosion incident in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya at a cost of RM5,000 per unit.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Transport Minister Anthony Loke stated that the actual selling price of each motorcycle was RM5,800, but Yamaha agreed to reduce the price to RM5,000. He noted that most of the recipients were residents of Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru, where many motorcycles were damaged due to the incident. Loke emphasized that the motorcycles are crucial for the victims as they serve as their primary mode of transportation and a means to earn a living.
“This initiative is aimed at helping them return to normal life as soon as possible,” Loke said during the handover ceremony at Putra Heights. The sponsorship also covers motorcycle road tax registration and insurance for the first year, with recipients already registered as the owners in the grant.
The Petronas gas pipeline fire occurred at 8:10 am last Tuesday, with flames reaching over 30 meters high and temperatures exceeding 1,000 degrees Celsius. The incident took almost eight hours to be fully extinguished.
