Subang Jaya: The reconstruction and repair of homes damaged in the gas pipeline fire incident in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, last month is expected to take two years to complete, said Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming. He confirmed that work on 219 affected homes is proceeding as planned and within the set timeframe.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nga Kor Ming stated that contractors are actively working on the repair and reconstruction of the destroyed homes. He expressed hope that within less than two years, the construction of new houses for the affected victims will be completed. For homes that have been completely destroyed, new ones will be built, while those that can be repaired will be restored.
Nga shared these details while speaking to Bernama before appearing on Bernama TV’s Ruang Bicara programme. The programme discussed the topic ‘UN-HABITAT: Malaysia Ready to Lead Global Sustainable Development’ at Wisma Bernama.
The reconstruction efforts are supported by a government allocation of RM46 million through the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) for repairing homes and public infrastructure affected by the incident. Nga mentioned that RM6 million of this allocation, together with funds from the Subang Jaya City Council, is designated for restoring and rebuilding public infrastructure and facilities, including roads, drainage systems, and public recreational parks damaged in the fire.
The gas pipeline fire on April 1 resulted in flames soaring over 30 metres high, with temperatures exceeding 1,000 degrees Celsius. The blaze took nearly eight hours to be fully extinguished. The incident led to complete destruction of 81 homes, severe structural damage to another 81 homes, partial damage to 57 homes, while 218 homes remained unaffected.
