Puspakom Self-declaration Initiative for Five Non-safety Items Commences

Shah Alam: The new self-declaration initiative at the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom), which involves five items not related to safety concerns for commercial vehicles, comes into effect today. This initiative was originally announced on March 11.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Road Transport Department (JPJ) Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli stated that the five items covered under this initiative include vehicle body lettering, speed signs, first aid kits, registration numbers, and the condition of passenger seats for public service vehicles. This measure aims to shorten inspection times and reduce failures due to non-critical issues. Vehicles that previously failed inspection on these grounds can now undergo reinspection online starting today.

Datuk Aedy Fadly emphasized that this flexibility is specifically for vehicles failing inspection on these five items and does not impact other inspection criteria. This change is applicable solely to Puspakom’s inspection procedures. However, these items are still subject to enforcement regulations under JPJ and the Royal Malaysia Police, with potential fines of up to RM300 per item for non-compliance.

The announcement was made during a media briefing at Puspakom Shah Alam in Section 28, with Puspakom Chief Executive Officer Mahmood Razak Bahman in attendance. Vehicle owners can access the guidebook detailing the self-declaration criteria and specifications of the five items on the Puspakom website.

Furthermore, Aedy Fadly mentioned that these five items will be part of the inspection during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2025 special operation, scheduled from March 24 to April 8 nationwide.

Meanwhile, Mahmood Razak noted that approximately 7,500 commercial vehicle owners are expected to complete their self-declaration via the Puspakom website. This change is anticipated to reduce inspection times by nearly 10 minutes, addressing a significant cause of congestion at vehicle inspection centers.
