Pulau burung: The Penang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) took nearly four hours to fully extinguish a landfill fire at the Pulau Burung Solid Waste Disposal Site here last night.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Fire and Rescue Operations Division assistant director John Sagun Francis stated that a team from the Nibong Tebal Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was dispatched after receiving an emergency call at 8.14 pm. The fire affected an area of 120 feet by 90 feet. The operation commander conducted an initial assessment to direct firefighters in containing and extinguishing the blaze, including creating a fire break to prevent it from spreading further.

John explained that the operation was divided into two sectors, Sector A and Sector B, which were both fully extinguished by midnight. Firefighters from the Batu Kawan and Bayan Baru Fire and Rescue Stations, along with members of the Voluntary Fire Brigades (PBS) from Valdor, Parit Buntar, Machang Bubok, Sungai Jawi, Nibong Tebal, and Kuala Kurau, participated in the operation. Additionally, two excavators from the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) aided the efforts by helping to turn over the solid waste, allowing for more effective direct firefighting and construction of fire breaks.

After extinguishing the fire, firefighters conducted overhaul works to ensure no remaining hotspots were left, concluding the operation at 1.30 am.
