Puchong:A chicken processing plant in Kampung Sri Aman Hilir has been found to allegedly exceed the prescribed voltage limit in its stunning process during a raid conducted under Op Taring Chiller. The plant is believed to have the capacity to process over 40,000 chickens daily.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, preliminary investigations revealed that the chickens were sourced from Sungai Sepat, Sungai Pelek, and Sepang before being processed at the plant. The processed chickens were then reportedly distributed to various locations, including Damansara, Bangi, Puchong, Cheras, Putra Perdana, and Putrajaya.
Datuk Muhammad Abdul Halim, Deputy Director of Operations at the Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department, stated that the plant used a water-bath stunning method with electrical voltages of 60 volts and 130 volts at different stages, far exceeding the Selangor Islamic Religious Department's (JAIS) limit of below 10 volts. This discrepancy raises concerns about the halal status of the chicken products.
The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) had previously issued notices to the plant to adhere to halal procedures, but compliance was not met. The raid resulted in the arrest of 12 Bangladeshi men without valid travel documents and the statement of the local owner being recorded for further investigation.
Additionally, the Department of Environment (DOE) has issued a notice to impound the plant's operational equipment. More than 6.5 tonnes of raw chicken, valued at RM85,400, were seized. The case is being investigated under the Trade Descriptions (Definition of Halal) Order 2011 and the Environmental Quality Act 1974.
