Public Universities Granted Autonomy to Conduct Online Learning Amid Hot Weather

Kuala terengganu: Public institutions of higher learning are now empowered to individually decide on measures to address the ongoing hot weather conditions, including the option to conduct online teaching and learning (PdP). Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir emphasized that no complaints have been received from universities regarding the heat, but the ministry is advocating for a flexible approach, allowing each institution to determine its own course of action.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Zambry highlighted the importance of this autonomy by noting that campus conditions vary significantly. Universities are thus free to implement online learning if deemed necessary. He drew parallels to previous instances, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and flood seasons, when universities permitted online courses for curricula that did not require physical presence. Dr Zambry's comments came during an engagement with university students at Dewan Perdana, Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA).

MetMalaysia has indicated that the current hot weather is anticipated to persist until the onset of the Southwest Monsoon season in June, attributed to drier atmospheric conditions and minimal rainfall.
