Kuala lumpur: The public and media have been urged to rely only on official sources from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) and related agencies for accurate information on earthquakes.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching emphasized that false information is often circulated on social media by individuals without credibility or authority. She highlighted the issue of limited digital literacy among the public, which can lead to the spread of misinformation. “While social media often circulates various information, digital literacy among the public remains limited. For accurate updates on earthquakes, the public is advised to refer directly to MetMalaysia,” she stated.
Her comments were made after attending a special screening of “Legasi Bomba the Movie” at a shopping mall, where she addressed reporters. The event saw a total of 300 Kulai residents, including members of the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), sponsored to attend the screening of the film, which is directed by James Lee and Frank See and has been showing in cinemas nationwide since August 21.
