Jakarta:First paragraph of the news story. Borrowers facing difficulties settling their National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loan arrears are encouraged to negotiate for loan restructuring or apply for deferment, according to the flexibilities allowed.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) emphasized the government's awareness of the constraints faced by borrowers genuinely burdened in settling their loans. As of August 31, 2026, the total loan repayment arrears for the agency reached RM10.7 billion, involving 1.16 million borrowers.
The statement was issued in response to a question by Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (PH-Port Dickson) regarding the latest total amount of PTPTN debt and the number of borrowers with arrears.
To ensure the long-term fund sustainability of PTPTN's business model, various initiatives have been and will continue to be implemented. These include strengthening loan management by improving loan terms and conditions to be more targeted towards those in need, based on the agency's capability.
Additionally, the ministry noted that the effectiveness and efficiency of loan repayment collection will be enhanced through the implementation of enforcement and strategic cooperation with government and corporate agencies.
