PSM To Maintain Current Sepak Takraw Squad For Asian Games

Kuala lumpur: The list of players in the national sepak takraw squad announced recently is expected to remain the core lineup for the upcoming Asian Games, said Sepak Takraw Association of Malaysia (PSM) president Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan. He said this has been jointly agreed upon by PSM and the National Sports Council. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Sumali Reduan mentioned that the selection also took into account tactical requirements while ensuring a balance between senior and younger players in the national squad. "So far there are no changes (to the team list). At the PSM level, we do not interfere in the selection of players as the recommendations come from the head coach and the coaching panel," he told reporters after the PSM Supreme Committee meeting at the Malaysian Sepak Takraw Academy. The coaching panel evaluates players' ability to compete in more than one event, as tournaments such as the Asian Games allow only a limited number of players. The 2026 Asian Games will be held in Japan fr om September 19 to October 4. Mohd Sumali stated that the issue of player releases, which had previously involved several athletes, has been resolved, allowing all players to focus fully on preparations for major tournaments this year. Earlier, during an incentive presentation ceremony, the national squad received a total of RM19,500 under the Sports Victory Prize Scheme for their success at the 2025 Asia Cup Championship. The men's squad players received RM5,000 each for excelling in the team event at the 2025 SEA Games. All coaches and players of the national squad also received duit raya contributions as a token of appreciation for their commitment and sacrifices in raising the country's name on the international stage.
