Kuala lumpur: The Sepaktakraw Association of Malaysia (PSM) is determined to ensure that the national sepak takraw team's impressive momentum from 2025 is sustained into the new year.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, PSM president Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan stated that to achieve this goal, the association will continue to strengthen grassroots talent development programmes and increase the involvement of more young players from across the country. He emphasized that PSM will place greater emphasis on enhancing the national team's professionalism, alongside innovation in sports science and tactical analysis.
Mohd Sumali expressed the importance of current successes producing future champions, noting that defending a title is often more challenging than winning it initially. He acknowledged the tougher challenges that await the national sepak takraw squad in 2026 and urged all involved to redouble their efforts to maintain the level of excellence achieved so far.
He conveyed a strong sense of national spirit and confidence that Malaysia can continue to compete with regional powerhouses, strengthen sepak takraw's standing on the world stage, and elevate this heritage sport to greater heights. He called for unity, saying, "Let us continue to stand united as one family - for sport and for the nation."
Last year, the national sepak takraw squad enjoyed a highly successful campaign, highlighted by winning the regu title at the Asian Cup and ending a 34-year gold medal drought in the team regu event at the Thailand SEA Games.
