Shah Alam: The proposal to ban the sale of electronic cigarettes or vape in Selangor is set to be examined at the upcoming State Government Council meeting (MMKN), as announced by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. The matter is expected to be discussed more thoroughly to ensure a comprehensive decision-making process.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Public Health and Environment Committee chairman Jamaliah Jamaluddin has been tasked with preparing the proposal for the meeting. This follows an integrated meeting conducted with various involved agencies. Amirudin emphasized the importance of a well-rounded approach, stating, “I have instructed that a paper be made and presented to MMKN for us to consider because any decision by the state government must be made comprehensively by looking at all aspects so that it can guarantee the health of current and future generations.”
Amirudin made these remarks during a press conference at the handover ceremony of the Raw Water Guarantee Scheme (SJAM) Package A and Package C Project. Prior to this, Jamaliah issued a statement revealing that the integrated meeting with the Menteri Besar’s Office included representatives from the Selangor State Health Department (JKNS), the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), and the Local Authorities (PBT).
According to Jamaliah, the meeting aimed to gather a comprehensive understanding of the enforcement, legal, and socio-economic aspects concerning the sale of vape products. This discussion comes in the wake of an April 24 report announcing that the Terengganu state government will implement a ban on electronic cigarette product sales at all premises starting August 1.
