Kelantan: A construction company's project manager was remanded for seven days from today to assist investigations into allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes worth about RM38,000 as inducement to help them secure a rural water supply project in Kelantan.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the remand order for the male suspect, in his 40s, was issued by Magistrate Amirul Asyraf Abdul Rashid this morning, after the suspect was arrested at 1 pm yesterday upon showing up at the Kelantan Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was believed to have committed the offence in 2022 by soliciting and receiving bribes from a contractor company as inducement in helping the company secure the rural water supply project through direct negotiation with a ministry.

An MACC source said the suspect is believed to have received cash payments and transfers to his personal bank account and several other accounts belonging to third parties.

Kelantan MACC director Azmin Yusoff confirmed the arrest and remand order when contacted, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
