Private GP Consultation Fees Review To Conclude In A Month: Dzulkefly

Putrajaya: Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad has confirmed that the review of consultation fees for private general practitioners (GPs) is set to be finalised within the next month. A Cabinet memorandum and circular, which have already been prepared, are expected to be tabled shortly.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Dzulkefly stated, “I have prepared the Cabinet memorandum and circular for the matter. So, I expect to resolve this within one month at the latest.” He further mentioned that once the memorandum is tabled and receives Cabinet approval, it will be executed, as the National Action Council on Cost of Living (NACCOL) has agreed to the review. This announcement came during his attendance at the Central Zone ‘Kembara Tolak Ubat Tidak Sah’ (TOBaTS) campaign programme.

Dr Dzulkefly had previously indicated on March 13 that the revised consultation fee rates for private practitioners would be announced before May 1. In addition, he addressed the upcoming protest by general practitioners against the policy requiring private medical centres to display medication prices. He assured that the ministry would not prevent the march to the Prime Minister’s Office scheduled for the following Tuesday, May 6, as it is their right to protest.

“I believe they will act in a civil and respectful manner, and I am ready to receive any memorandum they may submit,” Dr Dzulkefly remarked. He emphasized his support for the GPs, stating, “I cannot stop them, but honestly, I want them to understand what the ministry (and) what this minister, has been fighting for on their behalf. They need to know that I have fought for Schedule 7 (related to the GP fee review).”
