Ayer keroh: A prison personnel is on remand for six days starting today to assist in an investigation into allegations of soliciting and accepting a bribe of approximately RM3,000 as an inducement to smuggle prohibited items into a prison.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the remand order, effective until August 10, was issued against the male suspect, who is in his 20s, by Magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at the Ayer Keroh Magistrate's Court here this morning.

The suspect was arrested at about 11.50 am yesterday at his home in Sungai Petani, Kedah. Preliminary investigations indicate that the alleged offence took place last March while he was on duty at a prison in Melaka.

The suspect is suspected of receiving a bribe of about RM3,000 via an e-wallet transfer in exchange for bringing prohibited items into the prison. Melaka MACC Director Datuk Adi Supian Shafie, when contacted, confirmed the arrest, saying that the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
