Kuala Lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today carried out an inspection on the preparations for the 46th ASEAN Summit at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). The Prime Minister’s arrival at 3.30 pm was received by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Foreign Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Amran Mohamed Zin. Also present to inspect the preparations were Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Transport Minister Anthony Loke, and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar also visited the Asean-Malaysia 2025 Chairmanship Security Training Centre. Today marks the second day of the training session initiated by the National Security Council (MKN), which has activated the Crisis Management Team with security agencies to bolster defence, national security, and public order throughout the Asean-Malaysia Chairmanship 2025.
The training session is divided into three phases, starting with the Mind Diplomat Symposium held yesterday, followed by today’s ‘Table Top Exercise’ (TTX), a simulated discussion. The final phase, ‘Field Training Exercise’ (FTX), involving simulations and demonstrations, is scheduled for tomorrow.
The 46th ASEAN Summit, set for May 26 and 27, will convene leaders from 10 ASEAN member states to discuss regional issues, enhance economic cooperation, and promote inclusiveness and sustainability. Malaysia assumed the ASEAN Chairmanship on January 1, 2025, from Laos, with the theme of Inclusivity and Sustainability, reflecting the nation’s goal of building a united and prosperous ASEAN. This marks Malaysia’s fifth term as ASEAN Chairman, having previously held the position in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015.
