Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to Lead Meeting on Haze Management

Accra:The Prime Minister is set to preside over the Central Disaster Management Committee's High-Level Committee meeting on Monday to discuss haze-related issues, including inter-ministerial coordination and developments in the fires occurring in Indonesia.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil announced that the meeting will also focus on the impact of haze on public health, school operations, and outdoor sports activities. This will involve input from the Health Ministry, Education Ministry, and Youth and Sports Ministry.

Fahmi stated that further details would follow after the Monday meeting, emphasizing the need for comprehensive coordination among ministries to address the haze's impact. The current guidelines are based on the National Haze Action Plan, which remains in effect.

On the topic of forest fires in Indonesia and Malaysia’s offer of assistance, Fahmi noted that coordination efforts are ongoing. The recent spread of fires requires a reassessment of the assistance and assets offered by Malaysia to ensure they meet current needs. Further discussions are anticipated, although specific details on the assets to be deployed are not yet available.
