Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim Calls for Enhanced Grassroot Preparations for El Ni±o

Kuala lumpur: Being prepared at the grassroots level for the El Ni±o phenomenon needs to be strengthened as preventive measures and early groundwork are the best defence against the increasingly unpredictable impacts of extreme weather. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said this was agreed upon during the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) meeting, which reviewed a presentation by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) today regarding the El Ni±o phenomenon and its national implications.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the meeting also agreed that METMalaysia should immediately intensify its outreach efforts and visit all states to brief and explain the phenomenon comprehensively. Anwar emphasized the importance of this initiative to ensure that communities are well-informed and prepared for potential impacts.

Anwar said MTEN also reviewed a presentation by the Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corporation on the future direction of the country's oil and gas services and equipment companies. He noted that the government believes business operations and industrial expansion should be driven by the efficiency, agility, and wisdom of industry players themselves, while the government continues to provide clear, conducive policies that support growth.

Furthermore, Anwar stated that the MADANI Government will continue to act wisely and with foresight in facing global economic uncertainty, geopolitical tensions, and the various global crises that are becoming increasingly challenging. He stressed that these efforts are important to ensure that the people's interests are always protected and that the national economy remains sustainable, resilient, and strong.
