Kuala Lumpur:Budget 2027 demonstrates effective national financial management, with savings being redirected to benefit the populace, as emphasized by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar, who also serves as the Finance Minister, stated that the government prioritized resolving financial issues to eventually allocate savings to the people. He explained the importance of addressing financial priorities first, which enabled the accumulation of savings that can now be returned to the citizens, rather than increasing ministers' allowances.
The Prime Minister highlighted that good governance practices have enabled the government to offer various forms of assistance, including support for rubber smallholders, padi farmers, and provisions for sports shoes. This strategy forms the basis for strengthening governance, facilitating welfare initiatives in line with the nation's financial capacity.
Previously, the government focused on managing debt and addressing urgent needs such as school facilities and housing for military and police personnel. Anwar noted that the savings achieved have now created room to enhance public assistance, provided there is a continued commitment to financial discipline.
During the tabling of Budget 2027, Anwar announced increased allocations for Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA), raising the budget to RM16 billion from RM15 billion. STR recipients will receive up to RM150 monthly or RM1,800 annually. Additionally, Malaysians aged 18 and above not receiving STR will receive the MADANI SARA of RM100 twice, before Aidilfitri and for the country's 70th National Day.
The initiatives are set to benefit up to nine million STR recipients and 13 million Malaysians, including the middle-income group. The Early Schooling Aid has also been increased to RM200 from RM150, with RM1 billion allocated to benefit 5.3 million students.
Furthermore, the government will provide a one-off special financial assistance of RM1,000 to 38,000 taxi and rental car drivers and 15,000 school bus drivers nationwide, funded by revenue from 'H' special registration plates sales. This assistance will be distributed next week as part of efforts to return revenue to the people.
