Kuala lumpur: Ticket prices for the Formula 1 (F1) Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, set to take place at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) from October 2 to 4, will be determined by Bahrain, as stated by SIC Chief Executive Officer Azhan Shafriman Hanif. According to Azhan, Bahrain is responsible for the Formula 1 hosting rights fee for the race, and based on initial negotiations, all proceeds from ticket sales will be directed to Bahrain. Consequently, the decision on ticket prices rests with Bahrain.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Azhan mentioned that the matter is still under negotiation with the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), and any updates will be communicated as they become available. He noted that the initial discussions suggest all ticket sales proceeds will be returned to Bahrain, limiting SIC's power over pricing. Despite public interest in affordable tickets, any final decision lies with Bahrain.

Azhan expressed his intention to negotiate for special pricing, such as a MyKad discount, but emphasized that the final decision remains with Bahrain. The current focus of the negotiations is on operational aspects, with commercial discussions, including ticket sales and hospitality packages, yet to commence.

Azhan also revealed that a Bahraini team is expected to visit Malaysia next week for face-to-face negotiations, which should provide greater clarity on ticketing, hospitality, and other commercial matters. Online meetings are ongoing this week.

Commenting further, Azhan said tickets are anticipated to go on sale in the first week of August or possibly sooner. "I hope I can provide more details in the coming days and, hopefully, we can announce ticket sales as soon as possible," he added.

Last Sunday, Formula 1 confirmed Malaysia as the host of the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, following an agreement involving Formula 1, the FIA, and the governments of Malaysia and Bahrain. The event at SIC will retain its original name, subject to final agreement and official approval, including from the World Motor Sport Council.

The agreement ensures the Bahrain Grand Prix remains on the 2026 Formula 1 calendar after its earlier cancellation this season due to geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Malaysia previously hosted the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang from 1999 to 2017 before its removal from the Formula 1 calendar.
