Prasarana TVET Programme Aims To Train 1,000 Individuals

Kuala Lumpur: Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) aims to train 1,000 individuals through the Prasarana TVET Programme as part of efforts to support the National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Policy 2030. Prasarana president and Group chief executive officer Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah announced that the programme, starting in the fourth quarter of this year, would be implemented in phases over five years and involve about 200 trainees annually.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the training will last 12 months and cover areas such as electric bus operations, rolling stock maintenance, and cyber security. Participants will be eligible to receive the Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM). Mohd Azharuddin emphasized that the programme targets school leavers, vocational institution students, diploma holders, and university graduates. This initiative aligns with industry needs and supports the National TVET Policy 2030, which focuses on producing skilled workers with high income.

Mohd Azharuddin noted that Prasarana, a major company managing 1.3 million workers, aims to contribute to developing new talents with early exposure to Prasarana operations. Additionally, Prasarana has entered a strategic collaboration with Hitachi Rail to enhance the implementation of the TVET programme in Malaysia.

Hitachi Rail managing director for Urban Rail Signalling Ziad Rizk highlighted the importance of protege programmes in producing a highly skilled workforce among local youth. He expressed pride in the 30-year collaboration with Prasarana and the implementation of SelTrac technology, which has played a crucial role in advancing rail operations in Malaysia.
