Kuala Lumpur: The total amount of unpaid rent for the People’s Housing Project (PPR) and Public Housing (PA) under the purview of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has reached RM70 million, as stated by Mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif. She noted that the arrears were impacting the maintenance and management of facilities for communities in areas under DBKL’s supervision.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Maimunah highlighted that DBKL had implemented several measures to address the arrears, which include cutting off water supply, issuing notices, conducting financial advocacy programmes, and offering tenants an instalment payment plan. She emphasized the importance of these initiatives to ensure that rent collected is utilized to improve services for residents.
Additionally, Maimunah mentioned that DBKL is contemplating the sale of PPR and PA units to tenants who have the financial means to purchase them. She referenced a decision made in 2015 to suspend the sale of these units but expressed her willingness to reconsider if tenants are financially capable.
During the Safe City Community Wellbeing Programme, Maimunah also discussed other issues such as waste management, traffic congestion, and drug abuse.
