Tokyo: Polyplastics Co Ltd has made a significant advancement in sustainable materials by developing two new PLASTRON long-fibre thermoplastic (LFT) grades. These innovative grades incorporate post-consumer recycled (PCR) polypropylene, achieving mechanical performance on par with products made from virgin materials.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the newly developed grades, named PLASTRON SG20011 and RSG20013, feature over 30 percent PCR content and 30 to 40 percent glass fibre reinforcement. They are currently in the phase of sample production and evaluation. The materials are designed to offer high rigidity and impact strength similar to the company's existing commercial grades, while also reducing the carbon footprint of products by more than 20 percent compared to those made from virgin raw materials.
Polyplastics has expressed its commitment to expanding its range of recycled and environmentally friendly materials. The company is also exploring the use of cellulose fibre reinforcements to meet broader application needs and sustainability objectives.
Founded as a leader in the field of engineering thermoplastics, Polyplastics boasts a diverse product portfolio that includes POM, PBT, PPS, LCP, PET, COC, and LFT.
