Police: Authorities have stepped up security along the Malaysia-Thailand border following more than 50 bombings, arson attacks on local government offices, and tyre-burning reported in three provinces of southern Thailand last Saturday. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail has urged the public to stay away from the conflict zones due to escalating tensions and safety concerns.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Khalid emphasized the need to increase border controls out of concern for Malaysians who frequently visit the area. He advised the public to reduce travel to the conflict zones and avoid visiting the area at this time, labeling this as the best course of action given the current security situation.

Mohd Khalid addressed reporters following an awards, decorations, and medals ceremony held in conjunction with the 77th birthday of Yang Dipertua Negeri Melaka Tun Mohd Ali Rustam at Seri Negeri, Ayer Keroh. During the ceremony, Mohd Khalid received the Darjah Gemilang Seri Melaka (D.G.S.M.) award, which carries the title Datuk Seri.

He expressed hope for a peaceful resolution to the conflict to ensure the continued security of the nation's border. "We pray that everything can be settled amicably and that both countries, especially along the border, remain safe and peaceful," he stated.

In the meantime, a curfew was imposed in Narathiwat province from 10.15 pm on August 22 until 5 the following morning due to more than 50 violent incidents reported across three provinces. Loud explosions heard from Narathiwat caused alarm in border communities, rattling homes and raising concerns among residents in Kampung Lubok Gong and Kampung Tersang in Rantau Panjang.
