Kuala lumpur: In a tragic incident on Jalan Kemajuan, a second-semester postgraduate diploma student from Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Syakirah Hanan Mazli, was fatally injured in a vehicle collision. The incident occurred at 1.55pm when Syakirah, 25, was traveling from UniSZA towards Bukit Kecil and was struck by a Honda Jazz coming from the opposite direction as she made a right turn after the traffic light turned green. She died on the spot from the impact.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the suspect involved in the crash suffers from major depression. After allegedly stealing items and cash, the suspect reportedly returned to the Honda Jazz and fled, leading to the fatal crash captured on dashcam footage. The Road Transport Department (JPJ) later confirmed that the Honda Jazz was not a stolen vehicle, but rather belonged to the suspect's brother, contradicting claims circulating on social media.
Authorities have urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information in consideration of the victim's family. The police are committed to conducting a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure justice is served. The suspect will be detained under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for further investigation, pending recovery from surgery.
