Kuala Lumpur:The police are actively pursuing several individuals believed to be connected to the recent discovery of 1.16 tonnes of ketamine on a tanker. This effort follows the identification of suspects by the Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, the NCID director, confirmed that efforts to locate these individuals are underway as part of the ongoing investigation. Two individuals were previously arrested, but have since been released on police bail after their remand period expired.
The police are also collaborating with Indonesian authorities to gather further information related to the case. The two men initially detained were investigated under Section 34 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
In a separate incident, a Chinese national was detained at Hong Kong International Airport for allegedly transporting two kilograms of cocaine from Penang. Hussein highlighted that the drug syndicate involved seems to be using Chinese nationals as drug mules, a shift from employing Malaysian citizens. These individuals reportedly enter Malaysia through Kuala Lumpur International Airport, travel to Penang, and then proceed to Hong Kong with the drugs.
There have been three such cases, with two individuals arrested in Hong Kong and one in Penang. Preliminary investigations suggest that a syndicate mastermind is orchestrating these operations, including the provision of new passports for the Chinese nationals before arriving in Malaysia. Penang is suspected to be used as a transit point to confuse law enforcement by changing flight paths.
