Miri: Miri police have successfully arrested five local men aged between 32 and 42 who are believed to be involved in a house break-in on Jalan Abelia, Luak Bay, here on Thursday within 24 hours.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Miri District Police Chief, ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, stated that the victims, a married couple, reported the incident after discovering the break-in upon returning home around 12:40 pm. The stolen items included 17 watches of various brands, two gold necklaces, seven gold bracelets, three gold rings, three mobile phones, two laptops, several bottles of perfume, personal documents, and RM30,000 in cash, amounting to an estimated total value of RM80,000.
He further explained that based on the report, the investigation team acted swiftly, managing to apprehend all the suspects on the same day within the Miri city area. Some of the stolen items were recovered, and efforts to locate the remaining items are ongoing.
A background check revealed that four of the five suspects have criminal records related to theft, house break-ins, and drug abuse. Additionally, urine tests confirmed that all five suspects tested positive for methamphetamine.
Currently, the suspects are under remand until September 10 to assist in the investigation under Section 457 of the Penal Code and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
